Bay'at The meaning if Bay'at comes from the word Bay' which means to sell. In this case a person sells himself to the Sheikh. The concept of Bay'at is proven through Hadith and Quran as well. Allah Taa'la states in the Quran: “(O Muhammed) Verily those who take bay'at with you are (in actual fact) taking bay'at with Allah. The hand of Allah is above their hands. So whosoever breaks (the condition of the pledge), surely they break it to their own detriment: And whosoever fulfils the oath that may have taken with Allah, they will be granted great reward.” This ayat shows that there is an origin for bay'at. Here Allah has taken bay'at by the means of the Prophet Muhammed (peace & blessings be upon him). After the demise of the Prophet, this pledge of oath was taken on the hands of the successors of the Prophet in religious instruction and teaching. In a Hadith, Auf bin Malik Ashja'ee Radhiallaho May Allah be pleased with him anho says, “We were with the Prophet (peace & blessings be upon him). There were seven, eight or nine (of us), when he said, “Will you not make bay'at to the Prophet of Allah?” He then said, “That you make the ibaadat of Allah, and that you associate no partners to him: that you perform the five Salaat and that you hear and obey.” (Muslim, Abu Dawood, Nasai) This Hadith is clear proof for the validity of the system of bay'at in vogue by the Mashaaik of Tasawwuf, like there are four schools of thought in Fiqh, Hanafi, Shafi'ee, Maliki and Hanbali. So too are there four schools of thought (silsilas) in Tasawwuf i.e. Chistiyyah, Qadriyyah, Naqshbandiyyah and Suharwardiyyah. (1)The founder of the Chistiyyah silsila is Hazrat Khwaja Mueenudeen chisti Ajmeri. (2) The founder of the Qadriyyah order is Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. (3) The founder of the Naqshbandiyyah orders is Hazrat Sheikh Bahauddin Nakshbandi, and the (4) founder of the Suharwardiyyah order is Hazrat Shaikh Sahahabuddin Suharwardiyyah. (Rahmatullahi Alayhim).

The need of a Sheikh It has always been the divine scheme of things that perfection cannot be attained without a teacher or an expert instructor. In the same way, a person needs guidance in the beginning of a driving course so to a person needs guidance in Tasawwuf. The companionship of a pious person will include piety in you. Similarly, the companionship of a evil person will induce evil in you. To gain the nearest rank to Allah, one has to have a guider i.e. Sheikh who has reached that level as well. A short while spent in the companionship of the pious is more superior to a century of ordinary obedience. Companionship with the pious for even a moment can be superior to a century of abstention and worship. The best of creations, the Messenger (peace & blessings be upon him) also had a teacher, his teacher was the Angel Jibraeel. If the leader of mankind, Muhammed (peace & blessings be upon him) was in need of a guider then we are more in need of a guider and a Sheikh. The Prophet (peace & blessings be upon him) then became the teacher of the companions and the Sheikhs of the nations of their time. He diagnosed the spiritual diseases of the companions and created the quality of Ihsaan in their lives. They reached the highest level in all aspects of their lives. There is, therefore, always need for a man to have another person as his guide and instructor, who can practically demonstrate to him whatever knowledge he wishes to learn or whatever aim he desires to achieve. This is the very same reason that Allah sent Messengers and Prophets(peace & blessings be upon him) who were made to instruct and practically demonstrate to all of Mankind.

Tasawwuf-The Importance of a Sheikh Tasawwuf is another term for ‘Ihsaan'. For the people who say there is no origin of Tasawwuf, Hadith Jibraeel can be presented as a proof. In this Hadith, Jibraeel asked, “What is Ihsaan?” The Prophet (peace & blessings be upon him) replied, “Ihsaan means that you worship Allah devotedly as if you are seeing him, and if you cannot do that, then know that he is seeing you.” This is the ideology of Tasawwuf in a nutshell. Tasawwuf helps a person attain this quality of Ihsaan inside a Muslim. During the time of the Prophet (peace & blessings be upon him), the believers achieved the quality of Ihsaan by attending the company of Rasullullah (peace & blessings be upon him). The spiritual strength was such that by saying ‘Laa illaha illallah', the staunchest non-believer would attain the rank of Ihsaan. After the demise of the Prophet (peace & blessings be upon him), the quality of Ihsaan slowly decreased. For this reason, the elders who were the Imams and Mashaaik (experts) of Tasawwuf such as Sheikh Gulam Habib Nakshbandi, Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani and others, deduced spiritual exercises from their experiences to achieve the state of Ihsaan. Amongst the spiritual exercises, the Sheikhs have prescribed the Dhikr of Allah as a remedy for the ailments of the heart. It is related in a Hadith that: “There is a purifier fro everything, the polisher of the heart is the Dhikr (remembrance) of Allah.” In the Quran, it states: “For verily the contentment of the heart lies in the remembrance of Allah (Dhikr).” In another Hadith, it is related: “The example of a person who does Dhikr and who doesn't is like a person who is alive and one who is dead.” The person who does Dhikr is like a person who is alive and the person who does not do Dhikr is like the dead person. The effect of Dhikr in achieving love for Allah and reformation of the heart is explained by means of the following example: Suppose a person is in love with someone and the beloved is sitting next to the lover. However, the lover is not aware of the presence of the beloved due to being (A) Unable to see because of disease of the eye (B) Unable to hear because of disease of the ear or the ears being filled with dirt (C) Unable to smell due to a blocked nose (D) Being intoxicated and sleepy. Under these circumstances, the lover will not feel the presence of the beloved and experience no attraction or affection. But if someone prescribes a remedy and medicine to bring the lover out of the state of neglectful sleep and then unplugs the nose and the ears and treats the eyes so that they regain sight, the lover will begin to hear the voice, smell the fragrance and be able to get a glimpse of the beloved. Once the presence of the beloved is felt, the lover would desire the beloved. Thus, only by cleansing the heart and soul, is a person now fit to become aware and come in presence of his creator, Allah. Hazrat Sheikh Mohammed Zakariya (blessings be upon him) was questioned. The question asked was, “What is this thing called Tasawwuf? What is its reality?” He replied, “All it is, is to correct ones intention, nothing else. Its beginning is, “Verily all actions are judged by the intention.”, and its end is, “You may worship Allah as though you see him.” There are many different exercises merely to attain this state of Ihsaan: All the striving and meditation is to gain Ihsaan. Different Sheikhs have different methods. The movement of the head in Dhikr is not something which is proven through Hadith or Quran, but is only a method experienced by elders and Sheikhs. The Zaakireen (people who do Dhikr) do not say this method is Sunnah, so none can criticize or object to this act.

The Effect of Water which was Blown on by Hazrat A lady who came to visit Saharanpur from Bombay requested Hazrat to blow on some water for her husband who was a drinker. Hazrat blew over it for her. After some time she wrote a letter saying, “When my husband asked for a glass of water, I gave him the water which you had blown on. He drank the water and then asked, ‘Where did you get this water from?’ I was afraid to tell him the truth so I kept quiet. He said, ‘I am asking because of its delicious taste.’ I felt some courage and disclosed the truth. He said, ‘From today I shall stop drinking. Just keep giving me this water.’ By the grace of Allah our home is now a peaceful enjoyable house.”

For Protection from Enemies If fear of an enemy overcomes you, make a habit of reciting Surah Falaq (chapter 113) 7 times after each salaah with Durood Shareef 7 times before and after.

An Experienced Way of Warding off Jinn or Jadu (Magic) This amal (practise) is known as the amal of Aayatul Kursi. After fajr salaah, maghrib salaah and before retiring to bed, read thrice Surah Fatihah including Bismillah, Aayatul Kursi, Surah Falaq (chapter 113) and Surah Naas (chapter 114). Read any Durood Shareef thrice in the beginning as well as at the end. If the affected one recites himself it is better, otherwise someone else should recite and blow in such a manner that some part of his lips touch the affected person. Also keep a bottle of water and whatever you read blow in the water at the end and make the affected one drink from that water each morning before doing anything else. When the bottle is halved, fill it up with fresh water. And if some signs of affect are seen within the house, then a portion of that water should be sprinkled in the four corners of the house in such a manner that the water does not fall on the floor.

To Get Rid of Snakes Haji Anees Ahmad sahib who had just resided in Madinah Munawwarah, complained to Hazrat regarding frequent appearances of snakes and scorpions in their new house. Hazrat, in between the famous Huroofe Suryani and Durood Shareef, wrote a part of a Qur’aanic Aayah: “O’ people of Yathrib! Return as there is no abode for you!” A few days later Haji sahib said, “Since I put the taweez in the house no snake has appeared.”

Islamic Commandments Need No Revision If someone asserts that Islam should be changed according to the modern age as its commandments were particularly meant for the Holy Prophet's peace and blessings be upon him time and are no more in accord with the changed times, and are almost impracticable, it would be a great calumny against Allah Most High and the Holy Apostle peace and blessings be upon him. For Allah and His Apostle say that this religion has been perfected and made clear, that it will continue till the Last Day and that no other religion than Islam is acceptable. The holy Quran says: - "Lo! religion with Allah (is) Al-Islam (The Surrender to His Will and guidance). (III: 19) Similarly: - "And whoso seeketh a religion other than Al-Islam (the surrender to Allah) It will not be accepted from him, and he will be a loser in the Hereafter." (III: 85) For 1400 years it remained practicable and during different periods and different countries people changed themselves and their original ways and manners and yet they lived according to Islam, but now has come the difficulty for the people of this century that they cannot renounce their baser selves and Satan's ways! Should they, therefore, - Allah forbid! - Tamper with Islam and distort it and cast it according to their own wishes? Although The Holy Prophet's peace and blessings be upon him statement, is: - "No person amongst you can be a true believer as long as his/her desire does not become subject to the religion that I have brought." As an answer to the present mischief the above-mentioned prophetic Hadith is quite sufficient, because in the present-day people, finding it opposed to their carnal desires, are anxious to tamper with Islam itself.

(Hutchinsons Encyclopaedia) As before, through the medium of the Hadith, the event of Isa (Jesus - peace be upon him)’s return and all that follows has been accurately recorded. He will descend on Mount Afeeq, on the white Eastern Minaret of Damascus. He will descend from the heavens with his hands resting on the shoulders of two angels. His cheeks will be flat and his hair straight. When he lowers his head it will seem as if water is flowing from his hair, when he raises his head, it will appear as though his hair is beaded with silvery pearls. He will descend during the time of Fajr and the leader of the Muslims will address him thus, ‘O`Roohullah, lead the salat.’ Isa (Jesus - peeace be upon him) will decline with the words, ‘The virtue of this Ummah is that they lead each other.’ After the prayer, Isa (Jesus - peeace be upon him) will prepare himself to do battle and shall take up a spear. An army shall return from a campaign launched before the arrival of Isa (Jesus - peeace be upon him). They shall bring glad tidings of victory over India, granted to them by the Lord Almighty. Isa (Jesus - peeace be upon him) shall set out in pursuit of Dajjal. All those who embraced the evil of Dajjal shall perish even as the breath of Isa (Jesus - peeace be upon him) touches them. The breath of Isa (Jesus - peeace be upon him) shall proceed him as far as the eye can see. Dajjal will be captured at Lydda. The Dark Messiah shall begin to melt, as lead melts in fire. The spear of Isa (Jesus - peace be upon him) shall plunge into Dajjal’s chest, ending his dreaded reign. The followers of Dajjal will be rooted out, for even the trees and rocks will speak out against them. Then all battles shall cease and the world will know an age of peace. Then truly the sheep will lie in the shadow of the wolf without fear. The rule of Jesus will be just and all shall flock to him to enter the folds of the one true religion, Islam.

He will remain on the Earth for a period of forty days, of which the first day will be as long as a year, the second day as long as a month, the third as a week and the rest will be normal in length. He will try to gain entry to the two holy cities Makkah and Madinah, but the angels who guard them will bar him from them. From there, he will flee to Syria, where he will meet resistance from the forces of Imam Mahdi, the leader of the Muslims. Then shall the battle between Good and Evil begin in earnest. Imran ibn Hussain radiyallahu anhu narrates from the Noble Prophet Mohammed peace & blessings be upon him (peace & blessings be upon him), ‘There will always be a group of people upon the path of Allah, overpowering their enemies until the Order Of Allah comes and Isa alaihis salaam (Jesus - peace be upon him) descends.’ Finally, when the spirit of the Muslims begins to ebb, Isa (Jesus - peace be upon him) will be commanded by Allah to descend from the heavens. He will not descend as a prophet, but as a follower of the Prophet Muhammad peace & blessings be upon him (peace & blessings be upon him) and Islam. ‘Anti Christ in Christian Theology, the opponent of Christ. The appearance of the Anti Christ is believed to signal the Second Coming, at which Christ would conquer his opponent. The concept may stem from the idea of conflict between light and darkness, which is present in Persian, Babylon and Jewish literature and which influences early Christian Theology.’

‘The Beast was taken and with him the false prophet who wrought miracles before him with which he deceived them.’ (Revelation:19) The miracles and feats spoken of by the Prophet peace & blessings be upon him (peace & blessings be upon him) and John, the writer of the Book of Revelations, are further clarified by the Hadith narrated by Hadhrat Huzaifah radiyallahu anhu: ‘Dajjal will be blind in the right eye. He will have thick hair on his body and he will also have Paradise and Hell with him. Though his Paradise will appear as Jannah, in reality it will be Hell, and likewise, though his Hell will appear like Jahannnam, in reality it will be Paradise.’ (Muslim) Those who obey the Dark Messiah will enter his Paradise (and thus enter Hell), and those who denounce him will enter his Hell (and so shall in reality be entering Paradise). He will travel by means of a gigantic mule, at impossible speeds. He will cause droughts and famine upon those who reject him. But the remembrance of the true Lord will satiate them. Ubadah ibn Saamit radiyallahu anhu narrates from the Noble Prophet peace & blessings be upon him (peace & blessings be upon him), ‘If you still have any doubts regarding him (Dajjal), then remember, your Sustainer is not one-eyed.’ Ibn Umar radiyallahu anhuma narrates from the Noble Prophet peace & blessings be upon him (peace & blessings be upon him), ‘Allah is not one-eyed, while Maseeh-ud-Dajjal is blind in the right eye.’

Thursday 28/09/2017

According to the many Ahaadith describing Dajjal, the most distinguishing feature of his face besides the bulging eye will be the Arabic letters Kaaf (k), Faa (f), Raa (r), on his forehead. These letters spell Kufr (disbelief). All believers, regardless of their literacy will decipher these letters. It has also been ascertained from the Hadith that he will emerge from between Syria and Iraq, and his emergence will become known when he is in Isfahaan, at a place called Judea. He will be of Jewish origin and the Jews of Isfahaan will be his main followers and they will refer to him as the Messiah. As he goes on through the world, Jews and a great number of non-Jewish women will flock to him upon witnessing his false miracles. Imran ibn Hussain radiyallahu anhu narrated from the Prophet Mohammed peace & blessings be upon him (peace & blessings be upon him), ‘Those who hear about Dajjal should stay away from him. By Allah! A person will approach him thinking himself to be a believer. But on seeing his amazing feat he will become his follower.’

Thursday 28/09/2017

In anyone’s book, Dajjal is the embodiment of evil. A wise man once said, ‘Know your enemies and keep them close to you. By knowing them, you know your weakness, thus neutralising their potency.’ There are many Hadith which describe Dajjal’s appearance, his height and his powers. Ubadah ibn Saamit radiyallahu anhu narrates that the Last Prophet peace & blessings be upon him (peace & blessings be upon him) said, ‘I have explained Dajjal to you, but I fear that you might not have understood. Maseeh-ud-Dajjal will be short and his legs will be crooked. The hair on his head will be extremely twisted. He will have one eye, while his other eye will be flat. It will be neither deep, nor protruding.’ Ibn Umar radiyallahu anhuma narrates from the Last Prophet peace & blessings be upon him (peace & blessings be upon him) regarding Dajjal, ‘…red complexioned, fat, curly haired man, blind in the right eye which looks like a bulging grape.’

Thursday 28/09/2017

In this article, I intend to unveil the first aspect; the individual. The Book of Revelations by John (New Testament) contains prophecies regarding the Anti-Christ. However, over the times, many alterations have occurred in the original text and the commentaries have deviated from the actual meanings. That and the lack of consistency have left it in doubt of reliability and accuracy. Hence, there only remains the Hadith of the Noble Prophet Mohammedpeace & blessings be upon him (peace & blessings be upon him) as the only accurate source of information. In a Hadith narrated by Imran ibn Hussain radiyallahu anhum, the Prophet peace & blessings be upon him (peace & blessings be upon him) said, ‘Since the birth of Adam till the advent of Qiyaamah (Judgement Day) there is no fitnah (tribulation) much greater than that of Dajjal.’

Thursday 28/09/2017

There are three aspects of Dajjal: 1. The individual 2. A world wide social and cultural phenomenon 3. An unseen force. The latter two aspects of Dajjal have been explained and outlined brilliantly by Ahmed Thomas in his book ‘Dajjal - The King Without Clothes.’ Through intense research, he has managed to write a brilliant account of scary facts that bring home the full weight of reality. He explains the social and cultural phenomenon as a system that is being prepared by the minions and followers of Dajjal, through which he will operate and spread his evil. The Unseen Force is defined as the supernatural beings, such as Djinns and UFO’s, who abduct and posses humans to further his cause. Contemporary books such as ‘Omen’ and ‘Body Snatchers’, paint a frightening image of possibilities

Within, they found a short man with only one eye, chained to the cavern wall. Right away, he began to ask them questions, whether certain events had taken place or not. They answered truthfully because of their nature. They could feel the evil of this man like a physical presence. When they had confirmed all that he had asked, the man said, ‘Alas, my time is near.’ The companions managed to get off the island and returned home safely. Upon arriving, they told their story to the Prophet peace & blessings be upon him (peace & blessings be upon him). It was then that they first heard of Dajjal, the Dark Messiah.

Thursday 28/09/2017

Dajjal - The Dark Messiah ‘…But I will tell you something which no Prophet has told his people.Verily he (Dajjal) is one-eyed and Allah is not one-eyed.’ (Bukhari) The change in the weather had been sudden and dramatic, tossing the small fishing vessel around like a piece of flotsam; until it was no more than that. Its crew, a group of Sahaabah radiyallahu anhum (the companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad peace & blessings be upon him, peace & blessings be upon him), were washed up onto the shore of a foreign beach. When they regained consciousness, they found that they all had survived the wreck. They decided to explore the island to see whether they could find someone to help them, maybe supply them with a boat. It wasn’t long before they met a woman washing her hair in a rock pool. She directed them to a cave, managing to convey to them that there was someone there who wanted to speak with them. Intrigued, they entered the cave.

Recommendation The above only mentions a small percentage of the signs of Allah's existence and further reading and contemplation on the topic is strongly encouraged to strengthen one's faith however since man's intellect and knowledge is finite and shataaan deploys trickery to misguide, our faith should be proclaimed with or without proof. May Allah guide us to the straight path and accept us all – Ameen

Complexity There is no evolution in the scenarios described above however the inputs, outputs and processes of the above scenarios are evidence of a system designed with intelligence. Such a system, if compared with man-made inventions, would certainly require a lead technical designer, a single coordinator - a master controller.

Thursday 28/09/2017

Inheritance, Uniqueness and Independence The origin of this cooperation and intelligence in creation is Allah. The ability to share information such as inherited features between generations has been created by Allah. The system of keeping each individual unique is Allah's. The ability to exclude particular traits of a person from his/her progeny (e.g. criminal tendencies) has also been by the mercy of Allah, hence we are all born sinless and have free will. We cannot blame our ill doing to our genetic makeup.

Thursday 28/09/2017

Cooperation Cooperation between creations also occurs such as birds that clean the teeth of crocodiles. Crocodiles do not have a way of cleaning their extended set of teeth themselves so Allah has appointed birds to pick their teeth for food/insects and given the intelligence to the crocodiles to allow the birds to do so.

Signalling Systems Things that are harmful to humans often have bad smells associated with them. For example, Allah allows Milk to be produced and preserved in the bodies of warm blooded animals on the hottest of days however once the milk is extracted, even if sealed it will sour and smell bad after some time. The sour smell is a signal from Allah that the status of the milk changed and it is no longer fit for normal consumption. Likewise urine and stool smell to signal the risk of contamination and disease; everyone understands this warning from Allah but just in case the sense of smell is compromised Allah also compliments the signals by showing you flies and insects attracted to the filth and allowing buzzing noises from flies to emanate and be heard. To indicate severity of the problem, insects different in type and number appear depending on the strength and type of smell, i.e. a monitored warning level of the problem. Colour changes in water signal possible pollution and are a sign from Allah to be cautious. Similarly pleasant fragrances and scents lead to things which can be beneficial. Aroma Therapist and Purveyors of teas and infusions will be more than happy to vouch for this fact. Herbs, spices and condiments not only smell nice but also act as active ingredients in food and drink; lemongrass, ginger, mint and vinegar being classic examples. Again Allah has put these qualities in objects so that we can recognise them and purposefully use them.

Thursday 28/09/2017

Astronomy Allah created the moon like a mirror in the sky reflecting light for the benefit of Man; it appears partially or completely so that man can measure the day of the month. It has a gravitational pull causing tides that prevent sea water becoming stagnant and help breakdown and deposit particles at beaches. It is an amazing sign of Allah's greatness that he has purposely placed the moon in a particular position as an aid to Man in the darkness of night and as a significant factor in the ecology of the world.

Animals The common peacock has a fan-shaped tail, brightly coloured with blue, green, and purple 'eyes' on a chestnut background which is raised during courtship displays. It is not used as camouflage and the pattern is not seen elsewhere nor does it change. It is a handsome bird and is aesthetic to see. We humans often marvel at its glorious plumage and derive much enjoyment from the bird's majestic display but rarely do we realise that Allah has designed exquisiteness and beauty in creations to augment the environment we have inherited. He has done this for our benefit.

Reproduction Once a sperm has fertilized an egg, the egg's wall cannot be penetrated by other sperm, limiting about 4 million sperm that may have started the journey towards the egg to 1 sperm. Occasionally the fertilised egg will split in two or another sperm will fertilise another egg resulting in twins and on very rare instances triplets or a higher number of eggs are fertilised. However an ordinary pregnancy, if any could be described as such, would be where the egg is fertilised by one sperm thus allowing human population to scale in proportion to physical human capacity. We are one the most complex of species on the planet with physical and psychological needs and so Allah has not overburdened Man or placed an impossible task upon us by allowing all sperm to fertilise all eggs. In fact He has deliberately put factors in place to govern the personal well-being of parents and children and inhibited exponential population surges. However these factors do not inhibit serial reproduction after puberty. For example the head of a sperm contains an acrosin enzyme that dissolves the ovum casing of a woman's egg enabling the sperm to penetrate it. Once a sperm has fertilized an egg, the egg's wall cannot be penetrated by other sperm. The unsuccessful sperm die after about three days even though they have managed to get to the egg. Fertilisation has been pre-determined up to 4Million:1. Another example is of the female ovary, It may have millions of eggs but it will only ovulate one egg every month and stop ovulating whilst pregnant thereby restricting the number of eggs that can be fertilised at any one time. Breast-feeding also often inhibits pregnancy and so these factors govern pregnancy intervals and well-being. The end result is that the specie propagates, survives and inherits the world for the purpose it was created.

Appearances, Identity and Senses There are billions of people but each and every person has unique features, different eyes and also unique finger prints. Allah has created many aesthetic and functional features for us such as eyebrows. These divert sweat away from eyes, enhances the beauty of the face and do not grow at a rate of other hair on the body. Fingertips are used all the time, whenever we use our hands to grip, touch, push or tap an object. They are strengthened and protected by finger nails and Allah the most merciful replaces this protection without inconvenience to us. Imagine trying to peel a banana where your finger tips would be as flimsy as banana skin or with constant use, wear and tear, they become rigid - we would loose our sense of sensitive touch not to mention damaging the computer keyboard! However with this common function of the tip of the digit Allah still made us unique; fingerprints are the ridge pattern of the skin on a person's fingertips; this is constant through life and no two are exactly the same. What kind of system allows siblings to have different fingerprints? Even though the fingerprints of the parents do not change yet each person has unique prints that are different to their brothers/sisters even where they have the same biological mother and father. What king of system design can implement this and keep everyone's finger prints unique all over the world for all time! Brain - The brain consists amongst other things grey and white matter joined by nerves that sends chemical electrical waves reaching speeds of 160 m/525 ft per second. The brain is a magnificent controller encased in bone and capping all emotional interchanges: touch/taste, sight, smell, hearing and speech. Even though its signals can travel at high speed the position of the brain in close proximity to these senses further ensures a smaller distance of signal travel for the most highly used senses. In addition the grouping of the brain with the face and senses (the whole head) reduces the vulnerable areas to one: the head of the body. Thus by protecting it one can avert total incapacity (Other vital organs have been protected by cage of bones – rib cage). Allah has facilitated our survival by providing the mechanisms to enable us to live life safely and in comfort. These features have been designed and replicated millions of times by Allah without mutating the position of these senses. Even our auditory senses are positioned in a prime location so that we can hear sounds 360 degrees in any direction. Had our ears been positioned closer to our eyes our range would have been considerably less; we would be able to hear what was coming but we could see them coming anyway so the ears are there to sense at different frequencies that which we can't see. Our eyes however allow us to view almost 180 degrees and we can perceive objects in 3 dimensions, colour and we can move the components of our eyes so that we can pan and tilt our visual range. The muscles of the eye are used about 100,000 times a day to focus on particular things near or far. The same organ is so unique to each person that the retina of an eye can be scanned and biometrically used for security systems – again the same function of sight, replicated around the world but unique even to same parent siblings – The existence of worlds we have yet to find and the ones we have found and everything within them all are evidence and signs of Allah's supreme intelligence and power.

The Oneness of Allah In a day and age when nothing seems acceptable without proof, we find many aspects of our religion are based on complete faith. We are required to believe in many things with or without proof. From amongst these things, is the belief that Allah exists and that He is the creator of this world and that He has no partner in His being or any of his infinite qualities. We have to not only believe this, but also proclaim it. As we look into the lives of the pious predecessors, we find that they have been asked as to how Allah exists. They have answered in many different ways: 1) Imam Abu Hanifah was posed with this question in a debate with an atheist. The time and date was set for the debate. The whole village gathered but the Imam did not turn up on time. When he eventually arrived, the atheist began to taunt him that he was scared and that is why he turned up late. The Imam answered calmly: “I was on my way but encountered a river. There was no bridge or boat to cross the river. To my amazement, I see a tree coming out of the ground and begin to shape itself in the form of a boat that enters the water; I was able to board it and cross the river” The atheist began to laugh and disgrace the Imam. The Imam said the real joke is on you. If this is not possible then how can this whole world come into existence and be maintained in this order without a creator. 2) Imam Malik was asked the same question. He replied that I see a cow, a silk worm, and a honey bee, all eat the same leaf but they all produce different products. This proves to me that there is a creator who has the power to do this. 3) Imam Shafi replied to this question that the different language that people speak and use to communicate proves to me that this world has a creator. 4) Imam Ahmed on being asked this question replied that once I took three eggs of a chicken and three of a duck and placed them with the mother hen. When they hatched, they were taken to a pond. The ducks without hesitation jumped into the water but the chicks remained on the bank. Who taught the duckling to jump in the water and who taught the chicks to refrain from this? There surely has to be a creator. Besides this, if a person truly ponders on creation, he himself will find many signs guiding him to the belief that Allah exists and that he is One.

The GREATNESS of ALLAH. Greatness is often attached to world leaders, footballers, boxers and other famous people. However this is a false notion of greatness that holds neither value nor substance. Although we know that Allah (SWT) is the Greatest, yet this is not properly reflected and recognised in the heart. Once a person begins to realise the Greatness of Allah, any subconscious thoughts of greatness that he may have developed regarding a mortal will disappear and, in times of need and difficulty he will turn towards Allah (SWT). Allah says: “Say (O Muhammed Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him : Shall I take as a helper any other than the Creator of the heavens and the earth? And it is He who feeds but is not fed.” (Al-An'aam : 14) Hadhrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) narrates: “One day I was behind the Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him and he said to me, Young man! I shall teach you some words (of advice): Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, ask Allah; if you seek help, seek help from Allah. Know that if the nation were to gather to benefit you with anything, it would only benefit you with something that Allah has already prescribed for you, and that if they gather to harm you with anything, they would only harm you with something Allah has already prescribed for you. The pen has been lifted and the pages have dried.” (Tirmidhi). This shows the Power and Might of Allah (SWT). The creation is helpless and totally incapable of anything without the Help and Will of Allah. If He wills something to happen, it will definitely happen and there is none who can prevent it. “Surely, His is the Creation and Commandment”. (Al-A'raaf : 54). Allah (SWT) is the One who is Most Perfect, free from all deficiencies, worthy of all Praise, the Most Majestic and the Most High. He is the One and Only Lord for all the universe, its Creator, Owner, Organiser, Provider, Master, Planner, Sustainer, Cherisher and Giver of Security. He Knows, Hears, and Sees all things including an ant on a dark, stormy night. He is the Self-Sufficient Master Who is not in need of anything whilst all are in need of Him. Nothing resembles Him as Allah says: “There is nothing like Him; and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer”. (Ash-Shura : 11) No effort is expended by Him in carrying any action out as He says: “Verily, His command when He intends a thing is only that He says to it ‘Be!' – and it is!” (Ya-Seen : 82) and in Ayat-ul-Kursi Allah says : “…and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them (the heavens and the earth)…” (Al-Baqarah : 255). Along with this, no decision of Allah is overturned or delayed. Allah (SWT) is alone in all of the above attributes and many more. This is all the principle of Tawheed (the oneness of Allah) which states that Allah is Alone in self, Names, Attributes and Worship. In other words, Allah has no partner or equal, He possesses His Names and Attributes without equal, and He alone should be worshipped. Now that is a real mark of greatness. “So all the Praises and Thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the Lord of the earth and the Lord of the Worlds. And His (Alone) is the Majesty in the heavens and the earth, and He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise”. (Al-Jathiyah : 36-37). From above it is clear that it is totally incorrect to say that a certain person can cause children to be born, can fulfil our needs or is capable of such action which contradicts the concept of Tawheed. In fact it is also incorrect to believe that our dear Prophet (PBUH), who is undoubtedly the best of creation, is equal in any respect to Allah (SWT). For example our dear Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him does not have knowledge of the Unseen as Allah says: “And with Him are the keys of the Ghaib (all that is hidden),none knows them but He”. (Al-An'aam : 59) and this is further corroborated by a number of saheeh Ahaadeeth. There is a beautiful Hadeethi Qudsi (Sacred Hadith i.e. one in which the Prophet Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him reports what has been revealed to him by Allah) which describes the Greatness of Allah in eloquent terms, part of which is mentioned below: “O My Servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be the most pious as the most pious heart of any one man of you, that would not increase My Kingdom in anything. O My servants were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as wicked as the wicked heart of any one man of you that would not decrease My Kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and jinn of you to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and I were to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more than a needle decreases the sea if put into it”. (Muslim). To recognise the Creator, we must remove all thoughts of greatness that we may be harbouring about an individual which conflicts in our recognition of Allah (SWT). To respect and love someone is one thing, but to transgress the limits is an entirely different matter. To build up the recognition and realisation of the greatness of Allah (SWT), we must constantly look, listen, talk and think about the greatness of Allah. Of course, our feeble minds cannot comprehend the Mighty Being of Allah, therefore we should ponder over the creation to recognise the Creator. In addition to this, we must equip ourselves with the correct beliefs regarding Allah and repeatedly praise and glorify Him. May Allah enable us to do this. Ameen.
